Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the MacAlpine Mac Chapel, Bad Axe. Lay speaker, Mel McCracken officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the Mac Chapel. Memorials may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund. Edwin is survived by his wife, Gayle Slavin; his children, Aaron Alexander Slavin and Anna Christine Slavin both of Bad Axe; his mother, Ellen Slavin of Commerce Twp; his siblings, Daniel (Sheila) Slavin of Grand Haven, MI, John (Nanette) Slavin of Waukegan, IL and Frances (Mike) Fadie of Commerce Twp; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Slavin.

Biography

Edwin Charles Slavin, age 52, resident of Bad Axe, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor. He was born May 20, 1961 in Bad Axe to John and Ellen ( Kohvakka ) Slavin. Ed was united in marriage on October 8, 1988 to Gayle Gorthy in Saginaw. Ed attended Bad Axe High School and eventually received his GED and then went on to college. He served in the United States Air Force. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years including four years credit while serving in the Air Force. He was employed at the Saginaw post office as a mail handler, and advanced to Postmaster of Filion and eventually transferred to the Owendale post office. He was a member of the Owendale Lion’s Club for a short time before he became too ill to participate. Ed had a big heart and enjoyed helping people work through their problems by being a good listener. He had a great love for dogs and cats.
