Funeral Information

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be visitation on Tuesday from 2-8pm and Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. A Vigil will be held Tuesday evening at 7pm at the funeral home.

Alger is survived by his wife, Barbara of Port Austin; five daughters, Libby Leese of Eugene OR, Terry (Thomas) Hultz of Durham, NC, Kim (Tom) Hillgers of Redlands, CA, Pam (Dennis) Peyok of Gainesville, VA, and Julie (Richard) Pettit of Port Austin; six grandchildren, Tabitha Gage, Tom (Dawn) Hultz, Lyn (Chad Barron) Peyok, Sarah Weber, Tyler Pettit, and Tucker Pettit; 1 great grandchild, Adriana Gage. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Irene Yaroch and Mary Stowe; his aunts, Virginia Coates and Bernice (Mac) McCrea; his uncle, Clarence “Trigger” Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

Biography

Alger A. Yaroch, 81, of Port Austin, died Saturday September 13, 2014 at his home. He was born May 21, 1933 in Port Austin, son of the late Stanley “Steve” and Irene (Fisher) Yaroch. Alger married Barbara Allen on May 2, 1953 in Rockville, Indiana. Alger attended Kinde High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force where he attended Officer School in 1959. After becoming an Officer he served for 21 years before retiring as a Major. After retiring, Alger and his family returned to Kinde in 1971. While back in Huron County, Alger worked as a Supervisor for Pigeon Manufacturing for 18 years. Alger enjoyed his retirement spending winters in Florida and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren. Alger also enjoyed woodworking, cars, and model planes. He loved to read, especially westerns. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Alger was a member of Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin.
