Funeral Information

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke officiating. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery. Visitation at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, will be Friday, November 6, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday, November 7, will be at the church beginning at 12:00 noon. Those wishing to give a memorial may consider the Leukemia Research Foundation, Cross Lutheran Church or a charity of their choice. Family of the Deceased

Husband Eldon J. Brunni, who preceded Arlene in death on December 4, 1971. Together they had seven children: James (Carole) Brunni of Redvale, Colorado; Carl Brunni, who preceded them in death on December 18, 1961; Mary (James) Granelli of Long Beach, California; Betty (Greg Mathers) Brunni of Pigeon; Barbara (Mark Kellermann) Krohn of Pigeon; Carrie Brunni of Pigeon; and Bill (Son Mi) Brunni of Cedar Springs. From that marriage, Arlene was also blessed with ten grandchildren: Carl Brunni, Jeff (Coleen) Brunni, Matthew (Michelle) Granelli, Alexander (Sarah) Granelli, Nate Schweitzer, Kim (Steve) Klein, Janelle (Rahila) Krohn, Suzie Krohn, Steven Brunni and Jonathan Brunni; and four great-grandchildren: Carter, Elliot, Isaac, and Eloise. In 1974, Arlene married Hazen D. Fritz at his home in Sebewaing and her family grew to include five stepchildren: Dennis (Jean) Fritz of Pigeon, Denise Munoz of Flint, Randall (Evelyn) Fritz of Sebewaing, Connie (Terry) Damm of Pigeon, and Sherri (David) Kraft of Pigeon; step grandchildren Tera (Keith) Havard, Joel (Janna) Fritz, Christopher Munoz, Michael Munoz, Brian (Robyn) Fritz, Jeff (Cari) Fritz, Kami (Jeff) Elenbaum, Ryan (Beth Ann) Damm, Kelly (Alain) Ganamet, Alissa Kraft, Stephanie (Allen) McLean, and Matthew (Stephanie) Kraft; 21 step great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Ruth Fritz. Arlene is also survived by nieces and nephews, Gail (Jim) Wolfe, Joe (Sue) Wallace, Ann Malcott, and Mark (Feathers) Wallace, and their families. In addition to her son Carl, Arlene was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David L. Krohn; a niece, Cheri; her siblings and their spouses, Willard Smith, Helen (Mark) Wallace and Donald (Luella) Smith; and in-laws, Milton Fritz, Keith Fritz, and Ilene Holland.

Biography

Arlene Ella (Brunni) Fritz, 91, of Pigeon, passed away November 1, 2015, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe due to complications from surgery. She was born April 18, 1924, to Stanley and Saloma (Weidman) Smith at her grandparents’ home in Berne. She grew up in Berne and attended Big Turner School, a two-room school house. The family moved to Pigeon when she was in seventh grade. She attended Pigeon High School and graduated in 1942 as salutatorian of her class. After graduation, she worked at Pigeon State Bank. On May 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Eldon J. Brunni, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1971. Together they had seven children. On March 30, 1974, Arlene married Hazen D. Fritz at his home in Sebewaing and her family grew to include five stepchildren.Over the years, Arlene enjoyed many hobbies and activities, including gardening and canning, sewing and crocheting, cross-stitching, ceramics, bowling, fishing, traveling and watching the Detroit Tigers. She enjoyed going to church and being with family and friends. She had a sunny disposition, loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She hated Halloween. We loved her dearly and we will miss her greatly.
