Funeral Information

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church only. There will be a memorial service offered by the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 5740 of Parisville at 3:00 pm Wednesday and a joint rosary with the St. John Christian Mothers of Ubly and the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle 608 of Bad Axe at 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Helen is survived by two loving daughters: Linda (Gene) Hanson of Cass City and Betty (Bill) Glaza of Ubly; 5 wonderful grandchildren: Tracy, Pam, Jamie, Brad and Bryan; 2 loving great grandchildren: Cierra and Madison; 1 brother Mark (Bernice) Osentoski of Kinde; 2 sisters, Ilene (Ted) Narring of Warren and Delores (Jim) Stacer of Harbor Beach. Helen was preceded in death of 3 brothers: Curtis, Cletus and Leonard Osentoski.

Biography

Mrs. Helen Kociba, 90, of Ubly, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014, at Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe. Helen was born on December 29, 1923 in Austin Township of Sanilac County. Daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Swartz) Osentoski. She married Herman Kociba on July 2, 1949 at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2000. Helen attended the Proctor Country School. She had been a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church in Ubly where she served as a greeter and was a member of the Christian Mothers, St. Ann Circle 1. She was a former employee of Hamill Manufacturing of Bad Axe and was a waitress at Verona Hills Golf Course for 17 years. She also worked for Charlie Klump for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle 608 of Bad Axe, member of Huron County League of Catholic Women, member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 5740 of Parisville. Helen was also a member of the Ubly Community Club and a member of the Bad Axe and Kinde area Senior Citizens Club. She also enjoyed working at the Knights of Columbus fish fry for many years and playing euchre with a group of wonderful people at Liberty Lanes in Sandusky.
