Visitation is Friday, February 15, 2013 from 1-9pm at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon, MI. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, MI. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Burial will take place at Cross Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to Cross Lutheran Church & School in Pigeon, MI.
Hulda is survived by the following family members: Robert and Karen Baur of Pigeon. Their children - Kari (Thomas) Osentoski, Craig, Brian & Scott of Bay City and Michelle (Matthew) Reibling, Owen & Emma of Bad Axe; Keith (Linette) Baur, Dedrick & Anna of Caro; Kregg (Julie) Baur, Alexander, Kaitlyn & Bradford of Rocklin, CA and Timothy Baur of Pigeon. Bernice and Thomas Shupe of Elkton. Their children - Christopher (Angelique) Shupe & Elianah of Elkton; Peter (Melissa) Shupe, Kirsten, Riley & Grace of Bad Axe; Paul (Arin) Shupe, Selah & Luella; Jonathan (Angela) Shupe , Abraham & Enoch; David (Nicole) Shupe, Mariam, Julia & Daniel all of Elkton; Aaron (AmyLou) Shupe of Lynden, WA; and Andrew Shupe of Sunnyside, WA. Bruce and Marilyn Baur of Bay Port. Their children - Duane (Shelley) Baur, Travis & Keeley of Bay Port; Shelly (Scott) Walker, Hannah & Warren of Cumming, GA; Rhonda (Daniel) Heitzman, Zachary & Kelsey of Grand Rapids. Sharon Taylor of Port Austin. Her children – Brian (Kim) Jones & Morgan of Lakeland, FL; Bruce (Sheryl) Jones, Noah & Sophia of Sandy Springs, GA. Carol Lynn (Edwin) Webber of Lebanon, PA. Their children – Lauren (James) Winters, Trianna, Kaitlynn, Nickolas & Olivia of Cranberry Township, PA; Adam (Stefanie) Webber, Blaize & Lux of Denver, PA. Her sister, Olga Renn and sister-in-law, Caroline Schuette. Preceding her in death were her husband Paul on June 1, 1976 and his three sisters Alice (Ervin) Buchholz, Clara (Ralph) Henne, and Bertha (Ervin) Strieter, her eight brothers, sisters-in-law Alma, Ella, Matilda, Frances, Esther, Viola, Ann, and Gladys Schuette, brother-in-law Fred Renn, son-in-law John Taylor and great-grandson Erik Osentoski.
Hulda Maria Sophia Schuette Baur, age 99, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013. Hulda was born on November 4, 1913 to Christoph Heinrich and Sophia Maria (Bergman) Schuette. Her parents were immigrants of Germany, arriving in Huron County, Michigan in their youth. She grew up on the family farm in Oliver Township with brothers Walter, Albert, Otto, Ernst, Edward, Herman, Ervin and Carl and her sister, Olga. On June 4, 1938, she married Paul Baur of Bay Port. They made their home in McKinley Township where they raised their five children – Robert, Bernice, Bruce, Sharon and Carol Lynn and enjoyed the arrival of 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Over the years, Hulda enjoyed many hobbies ranging from gardening and floral arranging to cake decorating, knitting, sewing, smocking, and quilting. She eagerly shared these talents with her family and beyond, being instrumental in founding the American Girl 4-H Club and McKinley Homemakers Extension group. She served as President of the Huron County 4-H Leaders Association. Hulda enjoyed conversations with everyone she met, serving as an election inspector for McKinley Township and the Laker School District and delivering Meals on Wheels. A lifelong member of Cross Lutheran Church, she quilted with the Ladies Aid and provided many altar floral arrangements from her garden. Working at the Statler Hotel in Detroit during the depression, she developed her culinary skills. Her intricately decorated wedding cakes graced many wedding receptions in Huron County. She also enjoyed opening her home to host many foreign friends and relatives over the years and made several trips to Europe fostering lasting friendships.
