Biography

Leland Warschefsky, age 94, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Leland was born on the family farm in Palms on August 26, 1923, to the late Albert and Amelia (Kaufman) Warschefsky. He married Joyce Ann Rumble on September 1, 1949 in Carsonville, MI. He graduated from Deckerville High School in 1939. Lee attended Pt. Huron Junior College prior to graduating from Michigan State Agricultural College in 1950. He received his Master’s Degree from MSU in 1955 and taught vocational agriculture in Owendale and Ithaca. Lee then joined MSU Cooperatvie Extension Service where he served the tri-county farming community for the next 30 years. Lee also was involved in Lions Club, Michigan Cattlemen’s Association, Michigan Corn Growers and various other community organizations. He and Joyce were active members of Our Savior Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling with friends to various other destinations throughout the world. Lee loved to spend to time hunting and playing Stosh at the family cabin, enjoyed their cottage in Harbor Beach, and was a great Bocce player when they spent winters in Estero, Florida. Lee’s folksy humor and sonorous voice made him a joy to be around. He often borrowed Tom Bodet’s famous line from the Motel 6 ads reminding all of his visiting kids “We’ll leave the light on for you.” We know that where he is now, he’s still saying “We’ll leave the light on for you.” A life well lived, Daddy.
