Funeral Information

Mass of Christian burial for Margaret will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church/St. Hubert Parish in Bad Axe with Fr. T.J. Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Verona Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. at the MacAlpine Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 and at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Margaret is survived by her daughters: Susan (Larry) Hough of Attica, Sandra (Allen) Harding, of Lapeer and Shelly Sinclair of Attica; her grandchildren: Sarena (Jay) Hanson, James Harding, Amanda (David) Cook and Cory (Kari) Hough; her great-grandchildren: Alayna Hanson, Halle Cook and Alexis Miller. She is also survived by her siblings: Bernard “Sonny” Holdwick of Ruth, Grace Burkhard of Harbor Beach and Millie Kaufman of Ruth; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Catherine Holdwick, Lucille (Louis) Moore, Doris (Russell) Bowers, and Delores (Lowell) Messing; her brothers-in-law: Delbert Burkhard and LaVern Kaufman and a sister-in-law, Violet Holdwick.

Biography

Margaret “Mickey” Jurgess, 87, of Attica, passed away on October 10, 2021 at home under hospice care. She was born on March 15, 1934 to the late Bernard and Cecelia (Wipping) Holdwick of Ruth, Michigan. Mickey graduated from St. Peter’s & Paul’s in Ruth. She was united in marriage to Patrick J. Jurgess on February 4, 1956. They were married for 62 years. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2018. She was employed at Michigan Bell for several years. Mickey enjoyed her dogs, reading, crocheting, and working in her flower garden. Margaret was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer and the American Legion Post 16 Women’s Auxiliary.
