Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach from 2-8pm with a scripture service at 7:30pm. Funeral service will commence on Thursday at 11am at St John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, Rev. Dodge presiding. Visitation will begin at 10am at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. The family would like to thank United Hospice and Huron Memorial Infusion for their loving care of Mary over the years. Memorials may be given to United Hospice and St John Lutheran Church. Memories can be shared at www.RamseyFH.com

Surviving Mary are her sons, Walter Simpson of Mayville and Gregory Simpson of Grand Rapids, daughter Alice Ames of North Carolina, brother Charles Riley of Columbiaville, sister Helen Swart of Otisville, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Biography

MARY SIMPSON KESSEL, age 77 of Port Hope, passed away Sunday, January 22nd at her son’s home in Mayville, Michigan. She was born on August 4, 1939 to the late George and Helen (Vantine) Riley in Davison, Michigan. Mary was united in marriage in 1959 to Chester Simpson. He preceded her in death in January of 1976. Mary and Walter Kessel were united in marriage on September 10, 1983 in Port Hope. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2012. Mary enjoyed porch-sitting, watching the birds as well as watching football, baseball and the Game Show Network on television. She was a member of St John Lutheran Church of Port Hope and was a retired employee of RJ Manufacturing.
