Funeral Mass will be Wednesday February 25, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8pm at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde and on Wednesday from 10-11am at the church. A Vigil will be held Tuesday evening at 7pm at the funeral home.
Tida is survived by three sons, Tim (Amelia) Finan of Tucson, AZ, Bob Finan of Port Austin, and Pat (Pam) Finan of Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Kathy (Chuck) Patterson of Denver, CO, Jeanne (Dennis) Lupcke of Saginaw, and Margaret (Dave) Guitar of Harbor Beach; grandchildren, Frederico (Kari) Finan, Padraic (Emanuela) Finan, Vinny Carmody, Shannon (Brian) Hagedorn, Karl Lupcke, Sarah (Chris) Riemersma, Kristen (Asa) Meadows, Adam (Danielle) Lupcke, Matt Finan, Hollie Finan, Maggie Finan, Jessica Finan, Steve Guitar, Julia Guitar, and Allison Guitar; and her great grandchildren, Theo Finan, Paddy Finan, Murphy Finan, Jackson, Maria, and Harrison Riemersma, and Adam Lupcke. She is also survived by her extended family, Ellen, Tom, Mike, Maureen, Maryann, Susan, Stan, Jim, and Paul Slavin; and her brother-in-law, Pete Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Carl, George, and Jack Schwedler and Grace Swanson, Margaret McCutcheon, and Eleanor Slavin.
Matilda “Tida” M. Finan, 91, of Port Austin died Sunday February 22, 2015 at her home under Hospice Care. She was born May 2, 1923, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Houlihan) Schwedler. Tida married George Robert Finan on August 31, 1946 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin. Bob preceded her in death on March 14, 2007. Tida served in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in Tinian with the Occupation Troops in Japan. She graduated from Providence Hospital Nursing School and worked as an RN for 45 years until retiring from Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin, the American Legion Frank Horetski Post 499, and the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsman’s Club. Tida and Bob owned and operated Finan’s Store in Port Austin from 1954 until 1996.
