Visitation hours will be from noon - 8pm on Friday, November 28, 2014 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home, 538 South Beck St., Sebewaing, MI. and again, on Saturday, 10-11am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Bach, MI. with the service beginning at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Bach, MI and to Lutheran World Relief.
Orv is survived by his wife, Hilda Gremel; three daughters, Kay (Ronald) Lee, Ann (Dave) Germond, Joan (Bryan) Marko and one son, Joel (Lyndsay) Gremel; eight grandchildren, James Lee, Jonathan Lee, Katherine Najduk, Abigail Rodriguez, Jeffrey Germond, Julie Hoopes, Erica Gremel and Grant Gremel; and seven great grandchildren. Orv is also survived by two sisters, Betty Kundinger and Norma (Vern) Bates and a brother, James (Judy) Gremel; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Arnold and Esther Gremel; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Alfred Taglauer; and two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Florence Ewald, Karl Kundinger, and Roland and Dorothy Dehmel.
Orville Arnold Gremel, "Orv", age 94, of Sebewaing, MI, entered Heaven’s Gate on November 24, 2014. Orv was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bach, MI and a dedicated Sebewaing farmer for more than 50 years. Born on June 22, 1920 in Sebewaing to parents Arnold & Esther (Baur) Gremel, Orv was one of five children. He married Hilda Dehmel on March 4, 1944. Together, they raised four children. After graduation from Sebewaing High School in 1938, Orv worked the family farm while raising his family. During that time, he was a past member of the Sebewaing Lions Club, Michigan Farm Bureau, Pigeon Cooperative and the Huron County Planning Commission. He was an Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Sebewaing Future Farmers of America. Orv was also active at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Bach, MI, holding many different offices over the years. In August of 1970, Orv hosted Michigan Bean Day, a statewide exposition in which over 1,500 people visited his family farm. In 1972, Orv was appointed by Governor William Milliken to the Michigan Bean Commission in which he served for five years, and one of those years as Chairman. While on the Bean Commission, Orv served as part of the Michigan delegation which conducted Agricultural trade missions to Europe. When not farming, Orv enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid ice fisherman and member of the Ricardo's Hunting Lodge. He loved playing cards with friends in Sebewaing and Boynton Beach, Florida.
