Orv was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bach, MI and a dedicated Sebewaing farmer for more than 50 years. Born on June 22, 1920 in Sebewaing to parents Arnold & Esther (Baur) Gremel, Orv was one of five children. He married Hilda Dehmel on March 4, 1944. Together, they raised four children. After graduation from Sebewaing High School in 1938, Orv worked the family farm while raising his family. During that time, he was a past member of the Sebewaing Lions Club, Michigan Farm Bureau, Pigeon Cooperative and the Huron County Planning Commission. He was an Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Sebewaing Future Farmers of America. Orv was also active at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Bach, MI, holding many different offices over the years. In August of 1970, Orv hosted Michigan Bean Day, a statewide exposition in which over 1,500 people visited his family farm. In 1972, Orv was appointed by Governor William Milliken to the Michigan Bean Commission in which he served for five years, and one of those years as Chairman. While on the Bean Commission, Orv served as part of the Michigan delegation which conducted Agricultural trade missions to Europe. When not farming, Orv enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid ice fisherman and member of the Ricardo's Hunting Lodge. He loved playing cards with friends in Sebewaing and Boynton Beach, Florida.
