A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 11 am. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Fr. Rob Howe, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe on Thursday from 2-8 pm. or Friday at the church from 10 am, until the service time at 11 am. A scripture service will be offered on Thursday at 7 pm at the funeral home.
Survived by: 5 stepsons, Wally (Nancy)Soper of Nisswa, MN, Richard Soper of Pigeon, Elmer (Bernadine) Pionk of Roseville, Marvin (Shirley) Pionk of Florida and Gerald (Jeanette) Pionk of Sterling Heights. 2 stepdaughters, Sharron Patterson of Lemon Grove, Ca. and Mary (Richard) Mallek of McHenry, IL. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. And her special friend, Red of Pigeon. Predeceased by: 1 stepdaughter Sandra Buscemi, 1 stepdaughter-in-law Madonna Soper, 4 brothers and 6 sisters.
Veronica "Vi" Soper-Pionk, of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Huron Center in Bad Axe. She was born on May 16, 1925 in Marienthal, Kansas, daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline (Fuerch) Kessler. She married Clarence Soper on July 21, 1961 in Reno, Nevada. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1984. She married Leo Pionk on June 12, 1988 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1999. Vi was employed at the General Hospital in Bad Axe until it closed. She then worked for Patterson's Cleaners for 5 years, and for Hamill Manufacturing for 10 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards and dancing.
