Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Woodworth, Bad Axe, MI. Visitation will take place from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012 at MacAlpine Funeral Home, 302 N. Hanselman St. Bad Axe, MI and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe United Methodist Church or Michigan State University Extension, 446 W. Circle Dr. 108 Agriculture Hall, East Lansing, MI 48824.
William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys; five children, Charles T. (Denise) Hamilton of Elmira, N.Y., Rev. John N. (Linda) Hamilton of Gladwin, MI, Michael W. (Genie) Hamilton of Battle Creek, MI, James R. (Jane) Hamilton of Troy, MI and Carol A. (Robin) Zurek of Bad Axe, MI; Grandchildren, Kristopher (Jordan) Hamilton of Findlay, OH, Capt. Jeremy (Amy) Hamilton of Papillion, NE, Courtney Hamilton of Anchorage, AK, Andrew Hamilton of Saginaw, MI, Jennifer Hamilton of Columbus, OH and Diane Hamilton of Battle Creek, MI; Great-grandchildren, Abigail, Katelyn and Lillian Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert E. and Harold W. Hamilton.
He was an active member of the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. Bill received his Bachelor of Animal Science Degree with a minor in Agricultural Economics from the Ohio State University in 1948. He was the District Farm Management Agent for the Michigan State University Extension Service from 1977 until he retired in 1994, Huron Co. Extension Director from 1976-1977, Saginaw Co. Extension Agricultural Agent from 1972-1976, District Salesman for Ralston Purina Co. from 1955-1972 and Dairy Herd Management in Illinois from 1948 – 1955. His career took him to several Caribbean Islands, Israel, and Moldova (formerly Russia). He was a member of the National and State Agricultural Agent Associations and Epsilon Sigma Phi. He was a life member of Alpha Zeta Fraternity – Townshend Chapter. Bill enjoyed traveling and especially hiking on Isle Royale and watching Michigan State University football games.
