Criminal Charges Against Joseph Anthony Straub Moved Toward Possible Resolution

In Huron County District Court, the case of Joseph Anthony Straub is moving toward a potential resolution. During a probable cause conference, Judge Julienne Ferris reviewed the status of the case with defense attorney Marcus Wilcox and prosecutor Alexander Pahany.
The prosecution has extended a plea offer that would require Straub to waive his preliminary examination and plead guilty to fleeing and eluding fourth-degree and OWI first, in exchange for the dismissal of a third count.
The defense has not yet received the formal offer due to a communication error, which the parties are now correcting.
Attorney Wilcox indicated that Straub is also facing a pending drunk driving charge in Latham County. The defense is currently exploring options to enroll the defendant in a sobriety court program to address both matters.
Wilcox noted that Straub has no recollection of the incident in question and spent five days in a mental hospital following the event.
The court has ordered the exchange of discovery materials. The preliminary examination remains on the calendar for September 25th at 10:30 a.m. though the defense expects to reach a resolution before that date.
