Laker Leaders Awarded Huron County Community Foundation Grants

The Laker School District is celebrating two educators who were recognized at the Huron County Community Foundation's Annual Celebration on September 10 at the Huron Youth Center in Elkton.
More than $38,000 in grants were awarded to 26 local projects, following a competitive review of dozens of applications by the Huron County Community Foundation's (HCCF) grantmaking committee.
Superintendent Jill VerBurg received a $1,500 grant to launch the Laker Mobile Storefront which is a student-designed, student-built, and student-operated retail kiosk aimed at giving students hands on experience in design, fabrication, and entrepreneurship.
Elementary special education teacher Shannon Popham was awarded $826.76 to purchase new sensory tools, equipment, and calming supports for students. The additions will help create a more accessible and supportive learning environment for young learners who benefit from sensory-based interventions.
