Lake Town Passes Controversial Camping Ordinance

The Lake Township Board of Trustees approved a controversial ordinance during the two hour meeting on Thursday.
The first hour of the meeting was audience participation with board members fielding a wide variety of questions asked by township residents.
During the meeting, trustees approved an ordinance regarding camping despite several audience members encouraging them not to.
Some expressed concerns about the wording in parts of the ordinance as being vague while others expressed concerns about privacy and allowing camping to be abused.
Despite the push back on the ordinance, the trustees voted three against one to pass it.
According to township Supervisor Valerie McCallum, the ordinance is a general one instead of a zoning ordinance as it would regulate camping instead of regulating land use.
