The Thumb Has It's First Confirmed Case Of Measles

A confirmed case of measles has been reported in Michigan's Thumb region, prompting local health officials to alert residents about symptoms and vaccination status.
The Tuscola County Health Department says laboratory testing confirmed the infection, which is connected to a known measles exposure. The department is working with neighboring health agencies and the state to identify and notify people who may have been exposed.
Measles spreads through the air and is highly contagious. Symptoms typically include a high fever, cough, runny nose and red or watery eyes, followed by a rash.
Anyone who believes they may have measles is being told to call a healthcare provider before arriving at a clinic or emergency room, helping prevent additional exposure.
Two doses of the M-M-R vaccine are about 97% effective against measles.
The Tuscola County Health Department says anyone with questions about possible exposure, vaccination or symptoms can contact the department directly.
