MDARD Recognizes National Farm Safety And Health Week

With fall harvest underway across Michigan, state agriculture officials are reminding farmers and rural communities to keep safety at the forefront during one of the busiest times of the year.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is recognizing National Farm Safety and Health Week, September 21st through the 25th. This year's theme is "Safety Today, Success Tomorrow."
MDARD says farming remains one of the nation's most hazardous industries, with risks ranging from heavy machinery and rural roadway traffic to chemicals, livestock and confined spaces.
The National Education Center for Agricultural Safety is offering free webinars throughout the week covering equipment and roadway safety, farmer health and wellness, multiple generations working in agriculture, confined spaces and cancer prevention.
Michigan officials are also encouraging farms and local emergency responders to plan ahead for potential incidents. MDARD Director Tim Boring says making safety part of the everyday routine can help protect farm families, communities and the long-term future of farming operations.
