In Huron County Circuit Court, Richard Johnnie Allen received his sentence today for charges of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a prohibited person. Allen had previously pleaded guilty to these offenses on April 13th.
Defense attorney Michael Murawski stated Allen had no prior criminal history in over ten years and took full accountability for his actions, explaining Allen had stored a friend's weapon. Murawski requested a term of probation, with any jail time held in abeyance. Allen himself apologized, acknowledging his actions were not the right thing. Prosecutor Timothy Rutkowski requested two years of probation.
Judge Prill sentenced Allen to two years of probation and 180 days in county jail, with credit for one day served. Probation conditions include not violating any criminal law, remaining in Michigan, monthly reporting, and abstaining from alcohol or other intoxicants. Allen must also undergo substance abuse assessment and treatment, possess no weapons, and avoid contact with individuals in MDOC facilities or those violating criminal law. He is subject to searches of his person and property without a warrant if reasonable cause exists. Financial obligations were imposed. Attorney fees were waived. Allen was informed of his right to appeal the sentence.
