Cass City Approves Doing Two Infrastructure Projects

Two infrastructure projects were approved by the Cass City Council during Monday's village meeting.
While approving to have some sidewalk sections replaced, it was decided to add some additional sections when the work was being done.
The initial plan was to only replace the sidewalk on Main Street where the trees were removed and not replaced, and to do some sidewalk work with the North Alley project.
A company was hired to do that work for $6,850, which included $2,350 for the additional work.
The council decided completing all of the sidewalk work at the same time addressed potential safety hazards and a cost savings.
Because the total was more than the $5,000 the village manager is allowed to expend on her own, the council had to give approval for the expense.
The other infrastructure project was replacing sections of the sewer that was failing due to old clay pipes and roots.
The sections are on Sherman Street South of Garfield Street, Maple Street South of Garfield, Seeger Street from Garfield Street to Sixth Street, and a 48 inch patch on Highpoint Drive with the length of work about 1,161 feet.
There were two bids submitted. The low bid of $42,695 was accepted to do the work.
