Huron County Clerk is Reviewing Five Signed Recall Petitions

The Huron County Clerk's office was busy Friday accepting signed petitions for several recalls.
Petitions were turned for the proposed recall of Huron County Commissioner and turned in for several members of a township board.
Lily Dropiewski's signed petitions are to recall Commissioner Steve Vaughan were turned in to the clerk's office for a review of the signatures if they are valid or not.
The reason listed for the recall was Vaughn's vote on a zoning ordinance to allow up to 15,000 acres to be used for development of utility-scale solar energy facilities.
Vaughan represents Huron Commission district #4, which includes the township of Chandler, Colfax, Meade and Oliver, and the village of Elkton.
If the clerk's office verifies the signatures are valid, meet the required minimum number of signatures, are registered voters from Vaughn's commission district, the next step is taking the issue to a vote.
The clerk's office also accepted the signed four recall petitions against Lake Township Board of Trustees that were filed by township residents Julie Mozdzen and Julia Sturm.
Signed petitions were turned in for township Supervisor Valerie McCallum, Clerk Lisa Clinton, Treasurer Nicole Collins and Trustee Dale Hartsell.
The reason listed on each petition for recall allege they each violated the Open Meetings Act, improper meetings were held and giving pay increases to some board members.
The clerk's office will be reviewing the signatures to make sure they are township residents, verifying the person's signatures against records, and they are registered voters.
According to state law, the number of signatures required for a recall is 25 percent of the number of votes cast during the last election of a governor, which was 2022.
