Michigan Lawmaker Proposes Limits On License Plate Reader Data

Legislation expected to be introduced in the Michigan Senate would place new restrictions on the use of Flock Security license plate reader cameras across the state.

The proposal would require data collected by the cameras to be automatically deleted after 14 days. It would also require law enforcement agencies to obtain a search warrant before accessing license plate reader data that is not related to a criminal investigation or a missing person case.

The bill is expected to be formally introduced when the Michigan Senate returns from its summer recess on Wednesday, August 12th.
