Voters in Lapeer County supported a ballot request to help senior citizens.
The proposal asked if the previously voted increase of .3916 mills should be renewed and increased to .4578 mills for a period of four years to provide support for continued funding of the county's senior citizens services.
The request was approved with 11,721 yes votes to 8,963 no votes.
The ballot proposal was necessary because the millage voters approved back in 2022 would expire in 2026, and it is being reduced to .3840 of a mill by the Headlee rollback.
The millage rate that was approved will generate about $1,985,874 the first year.
Some of things the millage would fund are home delivered meals, congregate meal sites, personal care, respite care, and senior programs.
