Annual Huron County 4H Fall Family Social

The Huron County 4-H Leaders' Association hosted their annual 4-H Fall Family Social with approximately 102 4-H adult and teen volunteers, youth members and their families along with Friends of 4-H and community members on Saturday, October 25, at the Huron Expo Center in Bad Axe. The program began at 6:00 p.m. with a warm welcome from Ellexia Puvalowski, 4-H Senior Ambassador. The 4-H Ambassadors led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge.
An invocation was given by Cael & Keira Puvalowski, 4-H Intermediate Ambassadors, before dinner. A delicious dinner, catered by Mainstreet Cafe, was enjoyed by all who attended this relaxing and fun-filled event.
During the recognitions program, Sandi Smith, 4-H Council member, introduced and presented Friends of 4-H certificates to sponsors who supported Huron County 4-H programs in 2025.
Katrina Gentner, 4-H Council member, recognized the 4-H youth for their outstanding work in project areas, competitive activities, and leadership roles in the Huron County 4-H Youth Program. County project medals, based primarily on achievements in the past year, were presented to Annie Bowman for Dairy; Elianah Shupe for Gardening & Horticulture; Ethan Yackle for Goats and Sewing for Fun (Clothing & Textiles); Riley Koroleski for Photography; Allison Yackle for Plant Science/Field Crops; Kinslee Bair for Poultry, Olivia Messing for Rabbits; and Joseph Schack for Visual Arts & Crafts. Lawson Engelhard received a certificate for Best Report 8-Year-Old; Olivia Messing received a certificate for Best Report 9-Year-Old; Kinslee Bair received a certificate for Best Report 10-Year-Old; Riley Koroleski and Allison Yackle received certificates for Best Report 11-Year-Old; and Annie Bowman received a certificate for Best Report First Year - 13-Year-Old & Older (sheep).
Recognition was also given to the 2025-26 Huron County 4-H Ambassadors: Ellexia Puvalowski, 4-H Senior Ambassador; Clara and Gordon O'Connor, Junior 4-H Ambassadors; Kaylynn Holmes, Cael and Keira Puvalowski, Intermediate 4-H Ambassadors.
The Independent Bank 4-H Clothing Award was presented to Abbygail Plester (Senior). The Hessling Construction, LLC, 4-H Woodworking Awards were presented to Ian Plester for Apprentice, Carter Plester for Handyperson, and Abbygail Plester for Craftsperson. The HarJo's Ben Franklin 4-H Crafts Award went to Conlan Vader. The VerEllen Family in Loving Memory of Jean Ferriby 4-H Ceramic Award went to Sadi Heleski. The Schumacher Family 4-H Scrapbooking Award went to Natalie Phillips.
The Moments Captured 4-H Photography Awards were presented to Alaina Stepanski for 4-H Best of Beginner, and Roman Klee for 4-H Best of Special Effects. The Kuhn Family Farm 4-H Photography Awards were presented to Brynley Zurek for 4-H Best Enlargement 5x7, Riley Koroleski for 4-H Best Enlargement 8x10; and Roman Klee for 4-H Best of Huron County. Carol McCarty Photography Awards were presented to Carter Kosinski for 4-H Best of Advanced, and Kylie Volmering for 4-H Best of Intermediate.
The Thumb Anesthesia 4-H Awards were presented to Ava LeGault for 4-H Fine Arts; Brynn Lloyd for 4-H Cultural Arts; Ethan Dallas (Young), Ethan Yackle (Junior), and Grace Szymanski (Senior) for 4-H Non-Wearable Sewing-for-Fun; and Keira Puvalowski for 4-H Yarn and Thread. The Jeff Gillig Lego/K'Nex Awards were presented to Thaddeus Klosowski (Young); Colton Szymanski (Junior), and Eli Maurer (Senior).
Brantley Lochrie was awarded the Michigan Sugar Company Sugar Beet 4-H Award. Megan Messing received the 4-H Corn Stalk Award, while Jacob Wisneski received the 4-H Corn Sample Award both sponsored by the Huron County Corn Growers Association. Landon Volmering received the 4-H Sheaf of Wheat Award, and Anderson Wisneski received the 4-H Wheat Sample Award, both sponsored by Star of the West Milling Company.
Fiona Phillips received the Patti Errer & Family 4-H Decorating with Frosting Award. Lawson Engelhard was presented with the Hannah Booms, in Loving Memory of Dawn Booms, 4-H Canning Award. Eli Maurer received the Hannah Booms, in Loving Memory of Dawn Booms, 4-H Heritage Class/Grandma's Recipe Award. Joseph Schack was presented with the Patti Errer & Family 4-H Special Education Craft Award.
The Don & Donna Wheeler 4-H Recycling Award was presented to Jaxton Kosinski. The Huron County Master Gardeners Association 4-H Gardening Awards went to Megan Messing for 4-H Flower Arrangement; Elianah Shupe for 4-H Home Garden; and Brynley Zurek for 4-H Indoor/Outdoor Plants.
Patti Errer, 4-H Program Coordinator, recognized the 4-H Leader Clover recipients for their years of service, as well as their countless hours of dedication and work volunteering for the development of Huron County's 4-H youth: 5th Year Silver Clover Leaders: Jodi Bolsby, Amanda Murray, and Teri Lochrie; 10th Year Gold Clover Leaders: Ashley Kennedy, Krista Leipprandt, and Ann Osentoski-Conley; 15th Year Pearl Clover Leaders: Melissa Guza, Patt Maurer, Sharon Murray, and Kevin Smalley; 20th Year Diamond Clover Leaders: Bonnie & Dan Bates, and Amanda Warchuck; and 40th Year Gold Clover Leaders: Mary Jurges, James & Sheila Leitch.
Clara and Gordon O'Connor, 4-H Junior Ambassadors, had the privilege of recognizing 4-H Cloverbuds (ages 5 to 7) who attended the 4-H Fall Family Social: Jo Engelhard, Otto Klee, and Jessa Lochrie. Patti Errer had the honors of recognizing the Huron County 4-H Council members: Hannah Booms; Katrina Gentner; Jeff Gillig, President; Kelly Hunsanger, Vice-President; Erica Karg; Amanda Murray, Secretary; Cynthia Puvalowski, Treasurer; Rebecca Smalley; Sandi Smith, and Vivian Thuemmel along with 4-H Council Teen Representatives: Ellexia Puvalowski and Allysen Smith.
