THE 34TH ANNUAL ZION LUTHERAN GERMAN DINNER WAS ONCE AGAIN A SUCCESS IN HARBOR BEACH ON SUNDAY. ACCORDING TO DINNER CHAIRMAN JIM PFAFF 1380 POUNDS OF SAUSAGE ARE MADE AND COOKED FOR THE ANNUAL EVENT. IN 2011, 1130 MEALS WERE SERVED AND BEFORE THE END OF THE DAY, THEY WERE ON TRACK TO BEAT LAST YEAR'S NUMBER. PEOPLE TRAVELED AS FAR AWAY AS WEST BRANCH TO COME FOR THE OLD GERMAN CUISINE. PFAFF SAYS THE REVENUE RAISED FROM THE GERMAN DINNER BENEFITS THE PTL FOR THE LUTHERAN SCHOOL IN HARBOR BEACH, HELPING THE COUGHERS TO PAY BILLS, UPGRADES, AND RENOVATIONS. MUSIC WAS PROVIDED ONCE AGAIN BY LOCAL MUSICIAN AND ACCORDION PLAYER KELLY GAINOR. PFAFF IS PASSING THE TORCH ONTO NEW CO-CHAIRPERSONS FOR NEXT YEAR. HARBOR BEACH COUNCILMAN AND ZION LUTHERAN PARISHONER MATT WOODKE AND HIS WIFE GRETCHEN ARE TAKING OVER THE REIGNS FOR NEXT YEAR'S DINNER. BECAUSE OF THE DINNER'S LOGISTICS, THE COUPLE HAS BEEN IN TRAINING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. PREPARATIONS STARTED ON WEDNESDAY FOR SUNDAY'S FEAST AND OVER 1000 POUNDS OF POTATOES WERE PEELED, BY HAND.
