The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Bay Port United Methodist Church with Pastor Bryan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in New Bay Port Cemetery. Vistitation at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, MI. Friday, December 20th, 3-8 p.m. And at Bay Port United Methodist Church: Saturday, December 21, 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.
George is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, April (Leon) Henne of Bay Port; son, Robert (Carol) Roeber of North Carolina; grandchildren, Samantha Edgerton and Michael Roeber; great-grandchildren, Christian Henne and Patrick Henne; sister, Irene Gardy of Pigeon; sister-in-law, Zola Roeber of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Henne; sisters, Marguerite Chesney and Leona Roeber; and brothers, Albert Roeber and Arthur Roeber.
George Robert Roeber, 89 of Bay Port, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born in Bay Port at the Quarry in the family home on July 28, 1924 and was the son of the late William and Mary (Rehbein) Roeber. On August 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Virginia Kain in Bad Axe. George graduated from the Quarry School. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy as a Gunners Mate in the Pacific aboard the USS Shamrock Bay, the USS Sargent Bay, and the USS Curtis. Through the years he worked many different jobs, including 47 years at the stone quarry, and retired from Burroughs Co. He attended the Bay Port United Methodist Church.
