Mass of Christian burial will be 4:00 pm Friday, December 4 at St. John Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday from 3-9 pm and Friday from 2-3 pm. There will be a parish vigil service Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund. Gloria is survived by one daughter, Kelly (Kevin) Block of Troy; one son, Bradly Schelke of Royal Oak ; four grandchildren, Ethan, Nolan, Kelsey and Owen Block; four brothers, Henry Calvin “Hank” Grifka of Ubly, Ervin Grifka of Plymouth, Mike (Helen) Grifka of Ubly, Bill (Sandy) Grifka of Berkley ; two sisters, Anastasia Fisher of N. Ft. Myers, Fla., Linda (Robert) Tate of Pigeon; many nieces and nephews; her very, very best friend, Mary Lou (Murdock) Maurer; one brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” (Sue) Krug of Ubly, her beloved dog, B.J. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard & Jerry Grifka; three sisters, Bernadine Jansen and her husband, Robert, Lillian Krug, Patricia Grifka; one sister-in-law, Bertha Grifka; two brothers-in-law, Jake Jansen and Marvin Fisher; one niece, Tammy Grifka; one great niece Hannah Grifka; father-in-law and her mother-in-law, Lawrence and Elizabeth Schelke.
Gloria Ann Schelke, 70 of Ubly, passed away Monday evening, November 30, 2015, 21 years to the day her father passed away, at the William Beaumont Hospital after suffering a long illness with her loving children and nephew by her side. Gloria was born on October 21, 1945 in Bad Axe to the late Mike K. and Agnes (Pionk) Grifka. Gloria attended grade school at the Hogsback Country School and St. John’s Catholic School. She was a 1964 graduate of Ubly High School. Gloria earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Michigan State University in 1968. She was a very proud Spartan which led her to attending the Rose Bowl in 1968 to cheer on her Spartan team. Gloria spent many hours cross stitching treasures for her loved ones. She was a member of the Bad Axe Seniors Club. She loved teaching and playing bridge with her friends and loved watching big tennis matches on TV. Gloria loved all of her family and friends, but truly cherished time spent with her two children, son-in-law and four grandchildren.
