Funeral Information

A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, November 5, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Pigeon. Rev. Fr. Robert Pare’, pastor will officiate with burial in St. Felix Cemetery, Pinnebog. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton and at the church after 9:00 AM Monday. There will be a parish scripture service at 6 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to: Multiple Sclerosis Society or Hospice Advantage Foundation

Family of the Deceased

Surviving are six children, James O’Connor of Zephyrhills, FL, Maureen (Randy) Reibling of Elkton, Beth (Phil) Veillon of Beaumont, TX, Carrie Jaksa of Shelby Twp., Michael O’Connor of Quincy, FL and Catherine (John) Carballo of Belleair, FL; five grandchildren, Kristin (Jack) Edwards, Matthew (Michelle) Reibling, David (Lindsay) Reibling, Alicia (Waylon) Orns and Andrea (Dennis) Carpenter; six great grandchildren, Klaire and Adelyn Reibling, Owen and Emma and Ava Reibling and Jacob Orns; two brothers, Robert (Selma) Thiel of Pigeon, Jerry Thiel, Hillman; three sisters, Janet McIntyre of Las Crusas, NM, Judy (Don) Brunn of Rochester and Linda (Bill) Heidebriecht of Romeo; in-laws, Mary Alice Gretz of Decker, Bob (Tamara) O’Connor of Bay City. Preceding her in death was her sister Irene Voss and niece Janice Voss.

Biography

Meta A. O’Connor age 84, of Pigeon formerly of Zephyrhills, FL and Elkton died Thursday afternoon, December 3, at Country Gardens Assisted Living, Pigeon with her family by her side. She was born August 12, 1931, to the late Charles and Helene (Burzyck) Thiel in Oliver Twp. Meta grew up on the family farm north of Elkton and graduated from Elkton High School, Class of ’49. She attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Saginaw and received her RN in 1952. Meta practiced nursing for over 40 years in a variety of clinical settings. In each of these she was respected for her knowledge and skill, but above all for her compassion. To Meta the practice of healing was an extension of her love and faith. On November 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to William J. O’Connor at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon. They made their home in Elkton where they raised their family. In 1977 she and Bill moved to Zephyrhills, FL where they owned and operated a residential care facility for the elderly. And then following their retirement they enjoyed living on their farm in Chandler Twp near family and life-long friends. Meta was devoted to her family and her entire life was devoted to loving and caring for others. She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.
