Steven L. Craig age 64, of Colfax Twp near Elkton, left this earth suddenly, to be with his mother and the Lord in Heaven. He had suffered a stroke in November and was moved to the medical care facility for therapy but was never to recover. He was born March 13, 1951 in Bad Axe to Glenn Craig and the late Ethel (Block) Craig and grew up on a farm near Souletown. Steve was a 1969 graduate of Laker High School, then pursued a degree in agriculture at Michigan State University. Steve moved to Texas working as a “Roughneck’ in the oil fields for a while before purchasing a farm in Huntsville, TX where he started a haying business. He returned to Huron County, on Pinnebog Road and started farming, growing asparagus and strawberries, while working at Active Industries for 10 of those years. He mastered the art of growing strawberries and became known as the Strawberry King. He hired many local kids, mentored them and taught them some of life’s values by showing them what hard work was about. He enjoyed being surrounded by younger kids, he had many foster and troubled children over the years in his home. Steve moved his strawberry patch to Filion Road and continued raising asparagus for many years. To stay busy during the winter months, he worked at Michigan Sugar, Sebewaing. The last few years, he started a pyrotechnics business, put on firework displays for area communities and individuals. He also found a passion for selling on Ebay, dealing in removing scrap from large estates and being outside cutting firewood to heat his home. Steve enjoyed the bachelor, living on his own style of life. He was a very active member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bad Axe.
