Funeral Information

Mass of Christian burial will take place 11 am on Wednesday, September 7th at St John the Evangelist Church in Ubly with Fr. Charles Hammond officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 8 pm on Tuesday, September 6th at the MacAlpine Funeral in Bad Axe with a scripture service at 7 pm. Visitation will also be at the church on Wednesday, September 7th from 10 am until time of service. The family would like to thank the Meadow Lane Staff, Lucy Recker and Mickey Kramer for their exceptional love and care they gave to Virginia. Virginia is survived by her children: Fredrick Ruthko of Hillman, Thomas (Chris) Ruthko of Ubly, Paul (Crystal) Ruthko of Bad Axe, Mary Bridget (Pat) Pittsley of Mount Pleasant, Rebecca Ruthko of Sarasota, Florida, Steven (Lorie) Ruthko of Ubly and Judith Ruthko of New London, Connecticut; grandchildren: Tracey Ruthko, Chad (Nicole) Ruthko, Sarah (Joseph) Hunn, Ellie McLean, Tessa (Brian) Gould, Amanda (Aaron) Partridge, Camay (Brad) Booms, Megan Ruthko, Lauren (Jeremy) Jurgess, Laura Pittsley, Patrick Pittsley, Alison Pittsley, Jordan (Ali) Ruthko and Jeremy Ruthko; grandchild in law, Stacy Clark; great grandchildren: Hunter, Adam, Johnathan, Alex, Noel, Kyle, Ryan, Abraham, Adelyn, Annalise, Blaine, Ryder, Norah, Terence, Elijah and Joshua; sister, Bette Krug of Bad Axe, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John; her daughter, Kathleen; her granddaughter, Whitney Clark; her brother, Charlie Voelker and her sisters, June Swan, Doris Bennett and Myrtle Molascon.

Biography

Virginia “Ginny” Ann Ruthko, 88, of Bingham Township, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2016 at Meadow Lane under hospice care. She was born on September 29, 1927 in Bad Axe, Michigan to the late Issac and Louise (Baumgarten) Blaylock. Virginia married Fred Ruthko on February 11, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death in April 1985. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church/Good Shepherd Parish. Virginia was involved in the American Red Cross as a treasurer, the Thumbs Veterans Organization, volunteering at the church, Christians Mothers, Girl Scouts, 4 – H, and anything else her children signed her up for. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, baking, cooking, traveling and watching all types of sporting events. Virginia will be remembered as the world’s greatest mom and for her delicious poppy seed bread and pierogis.
