Funeral service will be 11 am on Wednesday, October 5th at the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church with Rev. Philip Tousley officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Visitation will be 9 am until time of service on Wednesday, October 5th at the church. Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe Senior Center or to Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. Condolences can be shared at www.macalpinefuneralhome.com

Lee is survived by four sons: Terry Wernette of Frankenmuth, Doug Wernette of Sanford, Dan (Bonnie) Wernette of Almont and Tom (Shelly) Wernette of Holland; four daughters: Mary Ellen (Jim) Hammond of Castro Valley, California, Karen (Dan) DiBiaso of Davis, California, Julie (Dave) Hall of Hudsonville, Michigan and Kathy (David) Wyman of Mt. Pleasant; 19 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brothers: Thane (Rita) Wernette of Midland and Gary (Carol) Wernette of Weidman; sister, Marilyn (Bill) Whitsel of Hubbard Lake; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Imelda (Bob) Thome and his brother, Alfred Wernette.

Biography

Leroy “Lee” B. Wernette, 86, of Bad Axe, formerly of Filion and Elkton, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. Lee was born in Remus, Michigan to the late Roy and Nilah (Nichols) Wernette on February 17, 1930. Lee was in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. Lee worked at many pharmacies and owned Huron Pharmacy. He loved spending time at the Bad Axe and Kinde Senior Centers, playing cards at the Knights of Columbus in Bad Axe, hunting, fishing, volunteering at the church and attending Bible study. On May 18, 1998, he married Emma Pietruck in Hawaii. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2009.
