Eileen leaves a legacy of family. Surviving are her eight children, Marie (Roland) Bowen of Glenshaw PA, Barbara (Jeff) Coalter of Princess Anne MD, Alan (Linda) Herman of Filion, Diane (Steve) Gundersen of Peshastin WA, George (Julie) Herman of Lynnwood WA, Glen (Kathy) Herman of Riley Center, Emily (Steve) Turner of Pigeon and Hope (David) Kosier of Washington DC; her seventeen grandchildren, Dr. Michael (Sara), Sean (Joy) and Derek Bowen, Tara (Matt) Norman and Brooke Coalter, Justin (Rose), Joshua (Melissa) and Jordan (Trisha) Herman, Riley Gundersen, Grant and Rhiana Herman, Holly, Tiffany and Nicole Herman, Jesse (Valerie), Alex (Elizabeth) and Eric (Ashley) Turner; and her 10 great grandchildren, Ethan, Jake, Wyatt, Everett, Noah and Adelyn Herman, Joel and Ransom Bowen, Sam and Jeff Norman. Also surviving are her sisters, Ruth Wolfe of Adrian and Betty Parsell of Pigeon and her brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Sally Weidman of Northville. Preceding her in death were her husband Elmer R. Herman, 3 sisters, one an un-named baby girl, Viola (Lloyd) Burkholder, El Donna (Harold) Parsell and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Wolfe and Carl Parsell.
Eileen M. (Weidman) Herman, 90, long time resident of both Pigeon and Elkton, died peacefully on Thursday morning, December 7th, in the long-term care of Scheuer Hospital. She was born November 8, 1927 in Pigeon to the late Mr. and Mrs. Wesley and Emma (Staehli) Weidman. On December 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to Elmer Herman at her parent's home in Winsor Twp. They took over the operation of the Herman family farm, north of Elkton. While farming with Elmer and raising a family, Eileen also painted and wallpapered in a business with her sister, Betty Parsell. After Elmer’s death, Eileen moved back to Pigeon. Eileen was a member of the Elkton Missionary Church where she taught Sunday School, Junior Church, coached Bible Quiz teams and ministered to the Church’s children to bring life to the Bible through stories and songs.
