Funeral service for Charles will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe with Pastor Philip Tousley officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2- 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be offered to: Bad Axe First United Methodist Church, the VFW Post 116 of Port Austin, Meadow Lane Assisted Living, or to Heartland Hospice. Charles is survived by his son, Mark Green and his wife, Michelle, of Bad Axe; his grandchildren, Lisa (Taggart) Town of Grand Rapids and Brian (Kasey) Green of Royal Oak; great grandchildren, Oliver and Henry Town and Liam and Genevieve Green; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond (Delores) Green and his sisters-in-law, Mable (Harold) Eyth and Alta (Alden) MacAlpine.

Biography

Charles H. Green, age 102, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2017, at Meadow Lane Assisted Living under Heartland Hospice care. Charles was born in Elkton, Michigan on May 16, 1915 to the late Thomas and Margaret (Robinson) Green. He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1935. Charles married Ruth Nelson on December 2, 1942 in front of the fireplace at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe, Michigan. She preceded him in death in July 12, 2003. Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in the 69th infantry, 273rd Regiment as a machine gunner and later a Platoon Sergeant. He was in the Battle of Bulge to the linkup with the Russian Army. He worked as an electrician for Detroit Edison for thirty years, retiring in 1975. Charles was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #116 in Port Austin, the Disabled American Veterans, and Verona Hills Golf Club.
