Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 11 am at St. Hubert Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiating will be Fr. Rob Howe, pastor. Friends may call at the Kaufman Funeral Home on Tuesday October 23, 2018 from 2 – 8 pm or Wednesday at the church from 10 am until the service time at 11 am. A scripture service will be offered at 7 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be offered to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry. Gloria is survived by her husband, Peter Flannery of Bad Axe. Children – Ann (Larry) Booms of Bay City, Amy (Sean) Wilson of Fairfax, VA, Charles (Margaret) Flannery of Paw Paw, Philiip (Esther) Flannery of Naples, FL, Lisa (Matthew) Chantiny of Colorado Springs, CO and Daniel (Amy) Flannery of Madison, WI. Grandchildren – Douglas Booms, Bethany Saliard, Benjamin and Stephanie Wilson, Rachel Reisterer, Jacob, Carlin, Luke and Grant Flannery, Joseph and Nicole Chantiny. Great-grandchildren – Olivia and Penelope Booms, Benjamin Ayres, Jack and Maren Saliard, Analiese, Josiah and Norie Frazile and Derick Deick. Sister – Joan LeCronier of Bay City. Brother – Robert Hanson of Bay City. Gloria was preceded in death by her brothers Raymond, James and David Hanson and sister, Sharon Isel.

Biography

Gloria Flannery, age 83, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at home with her family by her side. Gloria was born May 16, 1935 in Verona Township, daughter of the late Bernard and Anna (Osantoski) Hanson. She married Peter Flannery on May 25, 1957 at Sacred Heart Parish in Bad Axe. Gloria graduated at the age of 16 from Bad Axe High School in 1952. She then graduated from Central Michigan University in 1957. She began teaching in rural schools throughout Huron County, including Church, Big Burning and Kipper. She spent most of her career at Verona Mills, retiring in 1992. She continued her love of teaching children by substitute teaching for several years as well as volunteering at St. Stephens’ School in Florida. After retiring, she and Peter traveled extensively, visiting 46 states and 18 countries. They wintered in Riverview, Florida from 1999 – 2015. Gloria was an active member of St. Hubert’s Parish, including organizing, cooking and serving funeral dinners and serving the community in the Food Pantry. Gloria loved thrift shopping and relished a good deal. She enjoyed laughing and spending time with her friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
