Harry Francis Clancy of Port Austin, Michigan and Madeira Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021 at Mid-Pinellas Care Facility following a brief illness. He was 94 years old and lived a full and vibrant life. Harry F. Clancy was born November 10, 1926, son of Henry and Mabel (McIlhargie) Clancy. He was the sixth of seven children and grew up on a farm on Port Crescent Rd. in Port Austin. In 1951, Harry married Christine A. Kennedy after she moved north from Detroit to teach school. Together they raised seven children: Mary (Bob) Andreski, Barbara (Ed) Gottschalk, Thomas Lee Clancy, Sally (John) Pollock, Donna (Pat) Provot, Harriet Clancy and Debra Clancy. For the past 70 years Harry has owned and operated Clancy Bros. Excavating. He loved all aspects of his work from meeting people, looking at job sites and operating excavation equipment. Well into his 90s Harry enjoyed working on one machine or another. He always had an ongoing project or three. He worked on many job sites in Huron County over his long career, including the original west breakwall in Port Austin Harbor, construction of the Port Austin Air Force Base and Bird Creek Golf Course. His motto was to earn your living at something you love to do in order to enjoy going to work each day. In 1979, Harry married Dorothy Goretski. For 20 years they lived in Oak Beach, Michigan during the summer and Madeira Beach, Florida in winter. They enjoyed fishing and gardening. Avid tomato growers, they always had several varieties growing on the vines. Dorothy passed away in September 1999. Harry was a gregarious man who had many friends in both Michigan and Florida. After a long day working on a project, he could be found visiting with his Madeira Beach neighbors or relaxing on the deck overlooking the Pinnebog River in Michigan with his good friend, Elaine Smith. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin and served as a former member on the church council. He was a volunteer fireman for the Village of Port Austin and served as Fire Chief for a number of years. He was also a member of the Port Austin Lions Club and a former member of the Port Austin Village Council.
