A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3455 Rapson Road, Bad Axe, Michigan 48413. Friends may gather one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Bad Axe, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys Scouts of America, 10210 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131-4212. Gerald is survived by his daughters, Julie Sims and husband, Clyde, and Jill Laurin and husband, Josh, both of Shelbyville; sisters, Janet Kramer and husband, Marvin, and Sue Lange and husband, Jeff, both of Michigan, and Charlet Essenmacher and husband, Tom, of New Mexico; brothers, Marvin Smaglinski of Michigan, and Rich Smaglinski and wife, Stacy, of Ohio; grandchildren, Jacob, Conner, Patrick, Elijah, Nicholas, Caitlyn, Charlise and Jaxson; special friend, Connie Bowling of Fountaintown; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to Barbara, Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Jeff Smaglinski.
Gerald Kenneth Smaglinski, 72, of Indianapolis, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, at his home. He was born July 8, 1950, in Harbor Beach, Michigan, the son of Frank and Marion (Paionk) Smaglinski. On December 11, 1971, he married Barbara Joyce Casey, and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2012. He graduated from Harbor Beach High School in Michigan. Gerald formerly worked as a maintenance technician for Stanley Black and Decker, retiring with over 40 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Gerald was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan, and also enjoyed using his metal detector to search for treasures.
