Biography

Catherine “Cathy” Pennekamp-Wahl, 67, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home October 7, 2023. She was born on December 23, 1955 and preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Clara (Ahearn) Wahl. Catherine grew up in Port Austin, graduated from North Huron High School, acquired a bachelor’s degree from Lake Superior State University, and her master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University. She held various positions in Michigan including 4-H county coordinator for Mecosta County, Asst. Director for Bay County Child Services. As a student at Lake Superior State University, she came to know her savior, Lord Jesus Christ and eventually enrolled in Tyndale Theological Seminary in the Netherlands where she met her future husband, a Dutch man whom she married September 20, 1986 in Huron City. She was a professor of Business Management at Webster University in Leiden (the Netherlands) as well as CHN Professional University in Leeuwarden, Friesland. Their children were born while living in Harlingen (Netherlands) and the family traveled Europe extensively. The family moved to Springfield, MO in 2006 and she joined her husband’s translation business, Ozark Translators where she successfully managed a team of roughly 60 free-lance interpreters until 2023 when suffering from a rare brain disease. Catherine was crowned Huron County Bean Queen back in the 1970’s, enjoyed knitting, and prepared beautifully decorated dinners hosting great parties. Thanks to her faith she is now with the Lord.
