Eugene W. Smalley, 92, of Ubly, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Eugene was born at home on the family farm on November 27, 1931, son of the late Walter and Lucy (Peruski) Smalley. He married Gloria M. Gwisdalla on June 27, 1953. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this year. Eugene lived to farm and was happiest when driving the combine and giving orders to the boys. He enjoyed taking his children to “rock festivals” and he always drove, because he knew where they were at. Eugene loved to play euchre and his trips to the casino with his friends. In his younger years, Eugene didn’t miss a chance to go polka dancing! The Polka Party could be heard every Sunday at the Smalley house. Eugene was a lifelong member of St. Isidore Parish-St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Parisville, where he was an usher. He was also a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council 3823.
