Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11 am at Holy Apostles Parish – Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 3 – 8 pm at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe or Wednesday at the church from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am. A Rosary will be offered on Tuesday at 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to any charitable organization of your choice. Magdalene is survived by her children, Richard (Catherine) Stacer, Sally (Marvin) Lamke, and David (Denise) Stacer; In-laws, Joann Stacer and Eric Goebel. Thirteen grandchildren, Theresa (Paul) Messing, Joseph (Mandy) Stacer, Michael (Melissa) Stacer, Christopher (Melinda) Stacer, Melissa Stacer (Joseph D. Thomas), Matthew Lamke, Kyle (Krista) Lamke, Mitchell (Janelle) Lamke, Kirk (Ashley) Goebel, Erika Goebel (Nicholas Jankoska), Amanda (Joseph) Brant, Jillian Stacer (Zachary Amazon), and Troy Stacer(Alexandra Bowers). Twelve great-grandchildren, Zachary (Megan) Messing, Gabriel Messing, Colton Messing, Abigail, Ariana, and Alexander Stacer, Aiden, Quentin, and Madison Stacer, Ian Stacer, Maxwell Goebel, and Madeline Brant; Magdalene’s first great-great-grandchild is due in January of 2024. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph (Lorraine) Holdwick, as well as many special nieces and nephews. Magdalene was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Holdwick, her husband, Merlin Stacer, son, Donald Stacer and her daughter Kay Goebel, siblings infant brothers John and Clemens Holdwick, Loretta (Harold) Stacer, Robert (Irene) Holdwick, Lenore (Stanley) Kups, Roman (Clarann) Holdwick and Leo (Shirley) Holdwick. Brothers and Sisters-in-law Juanita (Nick) Clor, Robert (Cecelia) Stacer, Wilfred Stacer, Harold (Loretta) Stacer, Quentin (Lucille) Stacer, and Jerome (Delores) Stacer.

Biography

Magdalene Marie Stacer, age 95, of Ruth passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. She was born on February 12, 1928 in Sherman Township, Michigan to Henry and Anna (Buescher) Holdwick. She married Merlin A. Stacer on October 27, 1948 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. They celebrated 59 years together before his passing in 2008. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Christian Mothers. She had a very deep faith in God and prayed every day. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always had home baked chocolate chip cookies ready for her grandchildren and other visitors. She had quite a green thumb having had a large, plentiful garden for many years, and gorgeous houseplants. She was a great seamstress and quilter.
