Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 10 am at St. Hubert Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 5 – 8 pm at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe or Thursday at the church from 9 am until the service time at 10 am. Family of the Deceased

She was preceded in death by her husband Nick, son Mike, grandson Stevie, brothers Alfred (Blanche) Schlehuber, Carl (Dorothy) Schlehuber, and Bernard Schlehuber, sisters Alma (Robert) Tamlyn, Annie (Bill) Bentgen, and Mary (Alan) Shaw; also brothers-in-law Albert (Irma) Sorensen, Wally (Charlene) Sorensen, and sisters-in-law Nan (James) Masaway, and Editha (Ralph) Ritter. Surviving are three sons Tim (Jane) Sorenson, Jerry (Terry) Sorenson, and Pat (Susan) Sorenson. Grandchildren, Jake, Tim, Chris, Tom, Jennifer, Sean, Branden, Nate, Rachel, Dave, and Abby. Great grandchildren Axel, Matthew, Avery, and Ellie and many nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law Paul (Mary Ellen) Sorensen. The family would like to thank Courtney Manor and Heartland Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to their mother/grandmother and to special friend Pauline Goretski who checked in and provided holy communion. One of our fondest memories of Gigi when parting from gatherings was when we would say, “I love you.,” her response was, “I love you more.”

Biography

Gertrude (Gert/Gigi) Schlehuber Sorenson died peacefully at Courtney Manor on September 28, 2024. She was 95 years old. She was born in Moran, Michigan on November 29, 1928, the daughter of the late Fred and Louise (Becker) Schlehuber. She was raised in Moran and graduated from Our Lady of the Straits Girls School. (She was most proud of this.) She married Howard (Nick) Sorenson on September 3,1947 at Immaculate Conception Church in Moran. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1990. Gert was a member of Sacred Heart Church (St. Hubert) in Bad Axe. Gertie worked many different jobs. She was most happy when she worked at Huron Memorial Hospital as an OR Tech. She loved being with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed many hobbies over the years such as gardening, tending her flower beds, and cooking and baking for family gatherings. The grandkids have many fond memories of baking with Gigi.
