A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 11 am the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 5 – 8 pm or Wednesday from 10 am until the service time at 11 am at the funeral home. Ray is survived by his wife, Dawn, two children and eight grandchildren, Shane (Elena) VanValkenburgh of Pigeon, MI, Collin, Emilia, and Eliza; Cal (Jessica) VanValkenburgh of Pinnebog, MI, Mallory, Evelyn, Isabelle, Sophie, and Clara; siblings, Laura (James) Stauffer, Linda Wood, Robert VanValkenburgh, Randy (Lori) VanValkenburgh, Tom (Carol) VanValkenburgh, Chris (Marv) Swartzendruber, Doug VanValkenburgh, Steve VanValkenburgh, Kathy VanValkenburgh, James VanValkenburgh and Mike (Tammy) VanValkenburgh as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Judy Bannister; sister Thelma Churchhill; brother, Richard VanValkenburgh; brother William VanValkenburgh; brother, John VanValkenburgh; brother-in-law, Duane Bushey and brother-in-law, David Bushey.

Biography

Raymond S. VanValkenburgh, age 68, of Chandler Township, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024 at McLaren Flint – Emergency Department, surrounded by his loved ones. Ray was born July 1, 1956 in Howell, MI, son of the late James and Evelyn (Perkins) VanValkenburgh. They moved to the Pinnebog area in August of 1966. Ray married Dawn Marie Bushey on November 16, 1995 in Bad Axe, MI. Together they built their home, where they raised their two sons. He enjoyed building, hunting, having a good time with his friends, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with family. Ray had a heart of gold and wasn’t afraid of confrontation. He always stood up for what was right. He devoted himself entirely to his family.
