Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass for Doug will take place Monday, November 11, 2024 at 1 pm at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, of the Holy Name of Mary Parish, with Fr. Kevin Wojciechowski officiating. Friends may gather at the church from 11 am until time of services at 1 pm. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Doug is survived by his wife, Janice Maurer, of Ubly, children: Chrissy (Todd) Holdwick of Harbor Beach, Dan (Melanie) Maurer of Kinde, Dave (Rhonda) Maurer of Ubly, 10 grandchildren: Jackie, Jessica, Jake, Emily (Ashton Roggenbuck), Megan, Devin, Kylie, Seth, Cole, Jordan, siblings: Paula (Ross) Maurer Westbrook of Williamston, Brian Maurer of Florence, Wisconsin, Terry (Sheryl) Maurer of Ubly, his step mother, Mary Lou Maurer of Ubly, brothers and sister-in-law: Steve (Sharon) Zurek of Harbor Beach, Gary (Kelly) Zurek of Harbor Beach, Linda Zurek of Bad Axe, mother-in-law Jean Zurek of Harbor Beach, and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Lorraine Maurer, father-in-law Melvin Zurek, and sister-in-law Betty Maurer.
Douglas J. Maurer, age 71 of Ubly, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024 at University of Michigan Hospital, in Ann Arbor. Doug was born on June 3, 1953 in Bad Axe, to the late Norman and Lorraine (Murray) Maurer. He and Janice Zurek were united in marriage on November 10, 1973 at OLLH in Harbor Beach. Together they raised three successful children and enjoyed many things. Doug was a simple man, he enjoyed yard work, wood working, camping, and loved being with his grandchildren.
