William Joseph Jimkoski, lifelong resident of Port Austin Township, joined our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 18th, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle. Bill was born December 1, 1945, in Port Austin Township, at his family home to the late John and Jennie (O’Neal) Jimkoski. He graduated from Port Austin High School in 1963 entering the workforce after graduation. Bill was a proud Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for 2 years from 1967 to 1969 serving in the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor, 5th Infantry Division (mechanized) bravely fighting side by side with his military brothers. When he returned home, he met and fell in love with Marsha Pitcher and they were united in marriage on April 24, 1971, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin where they have continued their faith filled lives together. Bill was a ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ although his family and friends will argue he mastered all he tried to do. He had a special talent of creating anything from nothing. He spent his working career at H&J Industries, R. Hogan Construction, Gene Clancy & Sons Excavating, North Huron Metal Craft, and several other local companies learning and honing his skills in carpentry, heavy equipment operating and repairing any type of motor or mechanical function. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman with a special passion for duck hunting and could always be found outdoors. During the summer months Bill would usually be riding his motorcycle anywhere he traveled and could be recognized by the flags he proudly flew on the back. Bill loved everything about being part of the Grindstone City community and could be found visiting the harbor or a local establishment for a noontime iced tea.
