Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend Luella (Dolly) Grace Simon, 92, of Bad Axe, Michigan passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024. She was born to the late Delia and Clifford Griffin on December, 19th, 1931 in Flint, Michigan. Dolly married Jack Lee Simon Sr. on March, 1st 1950 and together they raised a wonderful family of four children: Jack Simon Jr., Barbara Velliquette, Jeanette Maas, and Danny Simon. Dolly is preceded in death by her parents Delia and Clifford Griffin, husband Jack Simon Sr, and children Jeanette Maas and Danny Simon. Dolly raised her family in the Detroit area before coming up to the Thumb region. She was mostly a hard-working and nurturing housewife, but she also spent several years working at a couple schools in the suburbs of Detroit as kitchen personnel. Dolly along with her husband Jack visited Bad Axe in the early 1980’s and they fell in love with the area and decided to jump into a grand adventure as she would call it. They bought the Coral Gables Motel which they owned and managed for 10 years before selling it to their son Jack Simon Jr. Dolly loved studying the Bible and she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1960. Dolly greatly loved being faithfully involved in sharing Bible teachings with others and attending the congregation meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses with her family and friends. In her family and among the congregation, Dolly was known for her hospitality. She loved to regularly host family, friends, visiting congregation speakers and others from out-of-town. Nobody was a stranger to the Simon home. Dolly was known for her sweet and mild-mannered personality and (literally) would never harm a fly. Dolly always put others before herself and she spent much of her life as a caregiver to her family. When she had free time, Dolly enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, baking her famous pies, reading, traveling when she could, caring for animals, being among her flowers, going to the beach, listening to music and playing the piano, and most of all being with her loved ones. Dolly had a strong belief in what she learned from the Scriptures and she looked forward to being reunited with her loved ones in an earthly paradise. (John 5:28, 29; Psalms 37:11, 29)
