Donna Marie (Hunter) Berger (71) of Bad Axe passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024. She returned to the Lord in the comfort of her childhood home in Port Hope. Donna Marie was born in Bad Axe on February 9, 1953 to the late RB and Gladys (Classen) Hunter of Port Hope. She was a 1971 graduate of Port Hope Community School. She later attended St. Clair Community College and graduated as an R.N. in 1974. She then moved to Bad Axe in which she called her “home” for almost 50 years. Donna worked very hard as an R.N. for over 40 years. She retired from the Huron County Medical Care Facility of Bad Axe. Being an R.N. was her passion though, and she quickly returned back to the line of work. She worked for Hospice of Cass City for a few years before finally retiring as an R.N. permanently. Donna and her beloved late husband, Jerry Lee Berger Jr. were married in Harbor Beach on November 14, 1992. She gained two bonus children from her marriage, Jerry Lee and Angela. Donna and her husband also raised three girls of their own together, Heather, Crystal, and Charity. Donna very much enjoyed crocheting starting from a very young age. Gifting others with things she had crocheted really made her happy. She always knew a song for every situation and often laughed that she wished she remembered important information like she remembered lyrics. She enjoyed laughing and joking with friends and family. Reminiscing was something she often did, and she absolutely loved sharing memories. She especially loved sharing memories about her mother, Gladys. When her girls were growing up, she loved taking the family camping, especially to her home town of Port Hope. She also very much enjoyed a family picnic, even in the colder seasons! Food always seemed to taste better outside! Her favorite drink was a hot cup of tea, and was something she enjoyed having almost every single day. Being a nurse, her best and most given advice to her girls was to apply a warm, moist compress. It seemed to be her go to cure for everything! Going for rides with no destination was a favorite pastime of hers. It was how she loved to spend her time with the ones she loved, while doing the things she loved best - laughing and chatting it up! She also was an animal lover and animals to her were always a part of the family. Not only did Donna always make sure to include her dog, Eva in her nightly prayers, but also all of her many “granddogs”, “grandcats”, and even “grandchickens”. Donna most of all though loved spending time with her late husband, Jerry, her three girls, and all of her many grandbabies who lovingly called her “Oma”.
