Fran is survived by: her daughter, Annette (Vincent) Puvaloski of Ubly, Michigan; son, Jake (Kim) Newton of Imlay City, Michigan; her sister: Charlotte Earp of Parker, Colorado; and her brother: Jerry (Gail) Zella of Hamilton, Montana. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Kari (Aaron) Melnik, Brooke (Daniel) Weltin, Jake (Erika) Newton, Robert 'RJ' Weaver, Kaytlin (Nick McPhail) Newton, and Amanda Weaver; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brynley, Haisley, Scarlett, Dexley, Bryn, and Jacey. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Jim Newton; daughter, Natalie (Robert) Weaver; her parents, Charles & Bernice Zella; and grandchildren, Frances Weaver, Felicia Weaver, Ashley Weaver, and Patrick Weaver.
Frances Newton, age 86, of Imlay City, Michigan passed away peacefully after a very long illness, Saturday, September 20, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family while in respite at United Hospice of Aspire, Marlette, Michigan. Frances Lillian Zella was born August 13, 1939 in Detroit, MI. She is the daughter of the late Charles and the late Bernice (Frankowski) Zella. Fran grew up in the Lakeville area. She was a graduate of Oxford High School, Class of 1957; Fran later graduated from Oakland Community College with a Nursing Degree (LPN). She married James William Newton on June 6, 1959 in Lake Orion, Michigan. Jim died on July 17, 2012. They moved to the Imlay City area in 1977 from the Leonard / Lakeville area. Fran practiced as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 30 years. She retired from Lapeer Regional Hospital in 1999. Over the years, Fran also had worked at Crittenton Hospital, Marlette Hospital and Almont Community Hospital. Fran enjoyed: spending time with her family, sewing and crafting, playing euchre and poker, cooking and baking, celebrating holidays and special family events. She was a great Detroit Lions fan.
