She was preceded in death by her husband, John. Survivors include two children: Ted (Susan) Schubel of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Sally (Kevin) Arndt of Port Hope; seven grandchildren: Nicole (Johnny) Viterbo, Brooke (Gabriel) Vasquez, Jenna (Luke) Yakuber, Heidi (Daniel) Baker, Leah (Trevor) Hopper, John Schubel, and Neil (Maria) Schubel; two brothers: Bill (Joyce) Varnell and Richard Varnell, and a sister Mary Rosekopf.

Biography

Rebecca "Becky" Nell Schubel, 84 of Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025. Born in Rossville, Georgia, Becky moved to Michigan as a child and graduated from Central High School in Grand Rapids. She was married 62 years to retired Huron County District Judge John Schubel, until his death in 2022. John and Becky lived in Grand Rapids and Pontiac, before moving to the thumb, first to Port Austin, then Grindstone, then settling for nearly 50 years in Port Hope. Becky worked in the Port Austin and Harbor Beach Libraries and was known for her voracious reading and love of books. Her pies, cookies, and family favorites including "Pink Stuff" and banana bread were especially well loved.
