Biography

Doug Laurie, 64, of Cass City was received into heaven on Sunday, January 4, 2026 in his home with his family by his side. He was born April 10, 1961 in Lansing to John and Betty (Morell) Laurie. He married his high school sweetheart, Tammy Wissner on September 12, 1981 in Kilmanagh. Doug graduated from Owen-Gage High School in 1979 and Michigan State University in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. Doug continued the family tradition of farming by owning and operating Laurieacres alongside his father and brother. Later on in life he continued to help the agriculture community working as a crop insurance adjuster. Throughout his life, Doug enjoyed many hobbies. As a young man he served his community in the Tuscola County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse. Doug was an adventurer who enjoyed camping, learning how to fly his own plane, family ski trips, the open road with his friends on motorcycles, boating, and off the beaten path excursions in the Jeep with his wife. Last year, he and Tammy enjoyed their dream vacation spending a month exploring Alaska. Doug enjoyed the challenge of woodworking and as a gun enthusiast, he was fond of shooting trap and clay targets. His relationship with Jesus was at the center of his life. He was an active member of Cass City Missionary Church, where he played drums for the praise band and led hymns during worship service. He also looked forward to participating with the Mizpah Men’s Bible Study Group on Tuesdays. Second only to his relationship with Christ, was his strong relationships with his family. Doug’s family meant everything to him, especially his six grandchildren.
