Funeral services for Shirley will be Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 11 am at the Free Methodist Church in Bad Axe, with burial to follow in Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation for Shirley will be at the church, Wednesday, beginning at 10 am until time of services at 11 am. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Shirley is survived by her sister, Donna (Clare) Bechler and Betty Gretch and her good friend May Deering. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Sturgis and John Blome; her son-in-law Joseph Czyzewski; brother-in-law, John Gretch, David Sturgis, and Paul Sturgis; sister-in-law Pauline Martinez; her infant brother Donald; and step-granddaughter Dana Wakefield. Shirley's warmth, humor, strong work ethic and deep love for her family will be cherished always.
Shirley (Sturgis) Blome, 91 of Elkton, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026 at Rose Garden Senior Living surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on February 17, 1935 in Berkley, MI, to the late Clarence and Clara Kipfer. She graduated from Owendale High School in 1952. She was a long time member of the Free Methodist Church in Bad Axe. In her younger years, Shirley worked at Michigan Bell Telephone in the Yellow Pages department and at the Dairy Bar. She later worked at Pigeon Elementary School. A dedicated and hardworking woman, Shirley helped build and operate Sturgis Plumbing and Heating alongside her husband, Richard. Following Richard's passing in 1984, she sold the business to Shetler Plumbing and Heating and continued working there until her retirement. She also worked at Catering Connection of Bad Axe. On January 28, 1953, Shirley married Richard Sturgis. Together they buyilt a life centered on faith, family and hard work, and were blessed with four children: Linda Czyzewski, Cindy Sturgis, Wanda Sturgis, and Scott (Laui) Sturgis: and grandchildren: Joell Schlabach, Joscelyne Schlabach, Trent (Erica) Schlabach, Ashley (Todd) Stevens, Jessica (Marcus) King, and step-granddaughter: Dani (Tim) Cook. Shirley was later blessed with a second chance at love when she married John Blome on July 7, 1998. Through this marriage, she lovingly gained three stepchildren: David (Joyce Buchanan) Blome, Paul (Nancy) Blome, and John Blome; and four step grandchildren: Rachel Blome, Robert Blome, Rebecca Blome, and Ryan Blome. Shirley was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family, including thirteen great-grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, playful jokes and pranks, and her fun-loving spirit. Shirley spent her winters in Florida with her daughter and grand dog Hudson. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting and baking. She was especially known for her beautiful and creative cake decorating, sharing her talents generously with family and friends for countless celebrations over the years.
