Funeral Services for Rodney will take place Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 11 am at St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope, with Rev. Matthew Durance officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation for Rodney will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 4-8pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church, beginning at 10 am until time of services at 11 am. A scripture service will take place Wednesday at 5:45 pm, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the St. John Lutheran Church Ladies Auxiliary. Memories can be shared at Ramseyfh.com

Rodney is survived by his children Deborah (Dennis) Stephenson of Ubly, Cindy Booms (fiancé Randy Booms) of Harbor Beach, Brenda (Brian) Young of Elkton, Rodney Jr (Kelly) Weiss of Harbor Beach, Randy (Mary) Weiss of Harbor Beach and Son-in-law, Tony Pedrotte of Harbor Beach, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Lois Weiss of Harbor Beach. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Pedrotte, brothers Alvin, Gerald and Victor, sister Evelyn Deer and brother-in-law Harvey Deer.

Biography

Rodney John Weiss, age 83 of Port Hope passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. He was born on January 16, 1943, to the late Otto and Clara (Schmidt) Weiss. He graduated in 1961 from Harbor Beach High School. Rodney married Janet Schmaltz on October 6, 1962, and she preceded him in death on June 9, 2024. Rodney was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Rodney farmed until 1979, and he and Janet owned and operated Forest Bay Cottages for 40 years. Rodney also was a fishing charter captain for 15 years and worked as a real estate agent. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved living on the lake, he also enjoyed gardening, bon-fires and spending time with family and grandchildren.
