A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Frurip-May Funeral Home, with Pastors Chris Wild and Jim Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in LaDonna’s memory to the Woodruff Grove Church or Lutheran Life Villages. Arrangements have been entrust to Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange, Indiana.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; her daughter, Heidi Whetzel of Wolcottville, Indiana; four sons, Bradley J. (Carol) Whetzel of Pewee Valley, Kentucky, Scott C. (Lethy) Whetzel of the Philippines, Jeffrey R. Whetzel of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Eric C. (Anita) Whetzel of Palatine, Illinois; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Jean M. Pischke, Joan M. D’Antonio, Betty L. Kolpak, Genevieve Totte, and Vivian Rowe; and four brothers, Escoe Funk, Stanley Funk, Walton Funk, and Paul Funk.
LaDonna Dee Whetzel, age 90, of Wolcottville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville, Indiana. She was born on September 15, 1935, in LaGrange, Indiana, to Roscoe R. and Pearl C. (Kitchen) Funk. LaDonna spent her younger years in LaGrange County and graduated from Topeka High School in 1953. On July 31, 1955, she married Charles J. Whetzel at Lakeview Church. They shared 71 years of marriage and built a life centered around their family. LaDonna and Charlie spent 38 years living in Illinois, where she worked as a secretary at various places while raising their family. In 1996, they returned to LaGrange County, and LaDonna continued her career as a secretary with the Department of Child and Family Services until her retirement. She was a member of Woodruff Grove Church in Wolcottville. LaDonna enjoyed taking walks, reading, cooking, and baking for her family. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family and the memories they created together.
